THINKING GLOBALLY ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AND TACKLING THEM TOGETHER
PLASTIC WASTE IS PRODUCED WORLDWIDE ...
Plastic waste is produced all over the world, and nature suffers as a result. In Germany, we have a deposit system that can be used to get at least some of the plastic produced under control. This is not the case elsewhere, for example in Asia, where our partner factory is located. There, used PET bottles are usually simply thrown away, and many of them end up in waters or somewhere in the countryside.
That's why we had the idea that we could help reduce plastic waste right where it is generated and ends up - and use the recycled materials to make our tents and sleeping bags. Because only by thinking and acting collectively will we be able to solve climate and environmental problems together in the long term.
LOOKING AT PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT TOGETHER AND ACTING ACCORDINGLY
THE BSCI CODE
Ecology comes from the Greek word “oikos”, which means household, and “logos”, which means, among other things, teaching. Thus it is the teaching of the household. This is based on the idea that people in a community live and are connected not only with each other but also with the environment.
In relation to our partner factory, this means that our factory is BSCI-certified. BSCI is the abbreviation for Business Social Compliance Initiative. This means that external as well as internal audits are carried out there on a regular basis. This ensures that all social standards are met in accordance with the agreed code of conduct. It includes, for example, that there is no children work, no forced labor, that all employees are well paid, that workplace safety is guaranteed, and much more.
Every day, several colleagues on site take care of this and ensure compliance with the social standards according to BSCI. Fortunately, many factories in Asia are now BSCI-certified, so that these standards are becoming more and more self-evident.
MAKING THE FUTURE BETTER FOR CHILDREN TOO
PER TENT SALE 1 EURO GOES TO A WISENHAUS
So that better conditions are created for the local employees and the upcoming generation, we and others keep an eye on it.
In order to also support the next generation in Bangladesh, we donate one Euro for every TAMBU tent sold to an orphanage in Bangladesh, to the "Mahila Samiti Shishu Sadan Orphanage Institute". This way we do not save the world, but at least we provide better future prospects for the children living there.
Unfortunately, this cannot be done overnight. Sometimes, however, slowness helps to follow the right path more effectively. We are happy about all those who walk this path with us - as customers, idea providers or colleagues - here in Europe and in Asia. Step by step, idea by idea, product by product.
